Empowering Futures: A Journey of Transformation with Sai Kripalu Foundation
For over three decades, the Sai Kripalu Foundation has been a beacon of hope, nurturing the potential within thousands of deserving students. We believe in the inherent dignity of every individual and strive to create opportunities for them to flourish, not just in academics, but in life itself. Our commitment extends beyond providing education; it's about fostering courage, igniting curiosity, and empowering young minds during the crucial transition from childhood to adolescence.
To date, over 3,000 students have experienced the transformative power of our programs. We celebrate their remarkable achievements: 100% high school graduation rate, 87% college completion rate, and, most profoundly, 78% being the first in their families to attend college. This is more than just statistics; it's a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of compassionate support. These accomplishments break cycles of poverty, creating lasting economic impact for individuals, families, and entire communities.
Gina's Story: A Seed of Hope Blossoms
Gina Chen, a cherished alumna from Cohort 13, recently shared her inspiring journey at our Annual Spring of Opportunity Benefit. Her story is a powerful example of the transformative impact of the Sai Kripalu Foundation's work.
“Good evening. It is an incredible honor to be here with you tonight. My name is Gina Yunru Chen, and I am a proud alumna of High Jump Cohort 13. I am also a first-generation immigrant and the first in my family to attend college—now a lawyer, entrepreneur, and even more proudly, a board member of this very program that helped shape who I am."
Gina's journey began with a simple act of kindness, a helping hand extended to a young immigrant navigating a new world. She recalls the night before her first day of school in America: "I still remember the night before my first day of school in America. I was 9 years old. I sat with a dictionary, searching for an English name with my mother, who is here in the room with us tonight. The school superintendent had said my Chinese name was too hard to pronounce. We landed on “Gina”—short, simple, and easy to remember. I wrote it on my palm in black marker, along with the letters for “girls bathroom.” That was my survival toolkit."
Her early experiences, filled with both challenges and small joys, highlight the importance of compassion and understanding. "In those early months, I discovered two great American traditions: one, far more delicious than the other. First—glazed donuts. I treated myself to two every morning from Dominick’s. (May it rest in peace.) Then came the second, more myst..."
Gina's story is a reminder that even the smallest act of kindness can have a profound and lasting impact. The Sai Kripalu Foundation is committed to continuing this work, empowering future generations to reach their full potential and create a more just and compassionate world.
