Commencement is a milestone that looks both backward and forward: it recognizes years of work while opening a new chapter for graduates and their families. Morgan Park Academy marked that moment for the Class of 2026 on June 6, bringing together student voices, alumni leadership, and a community ready to celebrate the seniors’ next steps.
Achievement with many dimensions
The Academy reported that its graduating seniors received more than $11 million in scholarship offers and acceptances from a wide range of universities and liberal arts colleges. Those results reflect academic effort, but a commencement ceremony is about more than admissions lists. It is also a chance to honor the habits and relationships that help students turn their learning into a future of purpose.
Valedictorian Diego’s address represented the student voice at the center of the day. His academic, service, and leadership accomplishments illustrate the varied ways young people build a meaningful school experience. As he prepares to study biological sciences on a pre-med track, his transition is one of many distinct paths emerging from the Class of 2026.
Alumni as a living connection
Two alumni helped connect the ceremony to the Academy’s long history. Dr. Lisa Daniel-Olimene ’89, a physician and longtime member of the Board of Trustees, delivered the commencement address. David Honor ’67 received the Richard L. Duchossois ’40 Integrity and Values Alumni Award, the school’s highest alumni honor. Honor’s decades of photography have documented MPA students and campus life, preserving an archive that lets the community see itself across generations.
Their presence makes a valuable point: a school’s relationship with its students does not end at graduation. Alumni can return as mentors, leaders, storytellers, and examples of the many forms a life of contribution can take.
Celebrating the next step
For the Class of 2026, commencement creates space to acknowledge both individual distinction and collective accomplishment. Every graduate brings a different set of interests, relationships, and ambitions to the next stage. Together, their stories reflect a community that values curiosity, achievement, and connection.
The ceremony also offers a reminder that education works best when students are encouraged to develop their own voices while seeing themselves as part of something larger.
